Day 2!
Started off the day with no breakfast. Need to remember to atleast get a bar or something on the way out.
We took Will to the park for the first time yesterday. I think he had a blast playing on the slides. Seeing him around other kids made me realize that at 2 he is bigger then some of the three year olds! Skinny as a rail but easily 3-4inches taller.
Beginning of day 1.
I know it’s going to be a hard bunch of months ahead of me but I’m glad that I’ve started the trip. I’ve been so unhappy lately that I know it affects how I treat others. I like how I interct with others a lot better when I’m not this overweight.
It’s hard to explain to others how difficult it is to carry around this much weight emotionally and physically.
I’ve set myself a goal of 250, for a total of 150lb loss.
My goal date is 9/11/2011, or 19 months, 8lbs a month, 2 pounds a week. I feel this is an attainable goal.
Did you know that a formerly obese person needs to exercise a minimum of 1 hour a day at moderate intensity 5 days a week to maintain a weightloss of 100lbs or more?
I sure didn’t, between not significantly altering my diet and not going to the gym anymore after I reached a comfortable weight it’s no wonder I gained all my weight back.
It’s been a long time since my last post here. I updated quite regularly for a while and then didn’t post anymore. Not quite sure why.
6 years ago, I started out at 415lbs, at 6 foot tall. I’ve got a large frame, and look very good at around 260. Obviously 415 lbs is not healthy. After an incident involving a lot of snow, a driveway I couldn’t traverse except for on foot, and a very long walk uphill at 415lbs I realized It was time for a change. Over the following 6 months I lost a total of 120 lbs, and for the first time in a very long time I was happy.
Fast forward 6 years. I’ve gotten married to a wonderful woman, fathered an amazing baby boy, and quit work to go back and get a college degree. Sadly I also have gained back all but 15lbs of that 120lbs. This is despite telling myself I would NEVER return here. I am once again unhappy and upset with myself for not doing something about the weight gain when I had to go up a pant size the first time.
Once again it is time for a change. I am a college student pursuing a degree in nursing, and deep down I know that I am not going to be near as successful as I know I can be if I stay this overweight. Not only that but I don’t want to die 20 years before my time, and leave my wife without a husband, and my son without a father.
So let today be the beginning of my second, and final journey to leading a healthy lifestyle.
Our latest venture into the Home Improvement realm is our Kitchen and Dining room tile floor. The people that we bought the house from put this floor down themselves and did a very poor job at it. Grout was coming up in chunks, entire sections of tile was not stuck to the backer-board at all and could be lifted up with little effort.
So with that in mind, with a whole lot of help from grandma, we decided it was time to get rid of this nasty ass floor. After getting a quote from Home Depot, and attempting to get a quote from another place right down the road, we went to Whisnants Tile & Trim. They came out, did an in home estimate and came back with a quote we were satisfied with.
We opted to take up the floor ourselves to save us several hundred dollars in labor. Little did I know when making this decision how hard it would be to get up! And did I mention dusty?
We started the removal on a Friday night after I got home from work. I was anxious to get started and see how difficult a weekend we had ahead of us. It was very slow going at first while we figured out what worked and what did not work. Once we were in the swing of things, we had all of the tile, and backer-board up before 7:00pm Saturday night.
Sunday held a lovely day of screw removal for my lovely wife Jennifer. Cause not only did these people put the floor down incorrectly, the one thing that they manged to do RIGHT was the 600 screws in the floor. Jen was a trooper though and got them all removed, and we were able to get down to the sub-floor by Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately, or not so unfortunately, we found out our dishwasher had been leaking underneath the tile and had cause some water damage to the base of the cabinets, and the sub-floor directly in-front of the dishwasher. I can only say that I am very happy we caught it before it turned it to a much more serious issue. I would have hated to come home and found Jennifer in the crawl space, having fell through the floor while loading the dishwasher.
Another problem also presented itself over by the back door to the kitchen. The bottom kick-plate to the door is not caulked properly and was leaking underneath the tile floor when it rained. We’re pretty certain what we have to do to fix that, we want to make sure we have all the issues resolved before the new tiles goes down, and we can no longer tell there’s a problem!
I’ll post pictures of the new tile floor, and talk about how much we love not walking on crunchy grout after its installed.
Jennifer and I did pumpkins over the weekend!
Hers is the one on the left, mine is on the right. I never would have thought it was that difficult to take pumpkin pictures. I took over 20 just to get one half way decent one.
